As a member of B.A.R.S. you will be trained in all aspects of wartime soldiering, such as drill, fieldcraft, signaling, weapon handling, and much much more. Upon joining the Society, you will enrol as a private, and gradually work your way up through the ranks
The Society holds regular training weekends at our training camps at Whttington Barracks & Foxfield Railway
Vehicles
As we are portraying an airborne section, the members of the society own various airborne jeeps, trailers and bikes, which are extensively used at our various shows and battles. New members are welcome to bring their own military vehicles, as long as they are of allied wartime specifications.
Weapons
The weapons that the society uses, are either replica, deactivated or held on the appropriate licences. New members must pass a firearm proficiency test before they are able to use one in an event.and will eventually purchase their own weapon
Uniforms and equipment
All uniforms and equipment, must be purchased by the individual members, the society holds some of the items in stock for sale, and is prepared to lend out items, to new member for a maximum of 2 events.
Private Battles
During the winter months, when the public shows are finished, the unit attends private battle weekends, where many re-enactment groups from all over the country, congregate at a battle site, and battle away for a complete weekend.
Personal requirements
As battle re-enactment is somewhat of a physical nature, new members must have a reasonable level of fitness, commitment, team spirit and be a team player, and above all, have a sense of humor.
Accommodation at shows
The society provides all accommodation at all of its events, in the shape of wartime tentage, all you need to bring is your personal bedding, food, drink and messtins, knife, fork and spoon
You will be under a section leader, who will be able to help you with any problems or questions you may have
The society does not participate in any strenuous activities such as route marching or assault corses
Membership
The membership runs from April to April, and the membership fee is £15.00 per year (or £1.25 per month of the remaining term) and includes public liability insurance of £5.000.000 (personal accident insurance available separately) 4 newsletters per year plus other flyers, free admission to all B.A.R.S. events, assistance in obtaining uniforms and equipment (not financial)
All new members will be on a 6 month probationary period, and must abide by the society rules and regulations
Please note that B.A.R.S is a non profit making organisation, and is also non political, we will not accept people with extreme political or fascist views
The minimum age for joining the British Airborne Re-enactment Society is 16, but will not be able to take part on the battlefiled until the 17th Birthday has been reached for insurance, firearm and saftey reasons
